MUDCAT

Mudcat’s fan wagon has room and you’ll want to jump on this ride.   If you’ve caught this act you know why.   Many have attempted to compare his style, pin it down to something familiar.   The adjectives used to define this show are too extensive to list.   One thing is certain; the music carries a passion, with a spirit infectious beyond explanation.
Danny “Mudcat” Dudeck was born with a love and attraction for the stage.   This extraordinary talent, witnessed by thousands, was fostered at a young age.   His formal teaching spans from small community theaters to the National Shakespeare Conservatory in NY.   It’s his love of music though that has led to his finest stage performances.   During his musical genesis these stages have included Texas street corners to the New York ferry, always attracting masses with his talent and intensity.   Inevitably, the stages became more conventional and diverse, with his audiences growing continuously, offering their unconditional devotion and support.   These days it’s next to impossible to keep him on stage while playing live, as his strolling through the audience and electric stage entrances have become a Mudcat signature.

Mudcat is an icon in the making, leading all who hear him on a journey others continue to yearn for.   Get on board now and open your heart and soul to the energy and emotion that is Mudcat!

… [T]here’s not much in this world sweeter than hearing Danny “Mudcat” Dudeck lay down some slide guitar …
- Atlanta Magazine (December 2000 Best of Atlanta Issue)

A dynamic showman, Mudcat has gathered around him a remarkable group of musicians whose high-energy creativity has fascinated audiences all over America.
- Blues to Bop Festival (Lugano Switzerland)
Mudcat is a dynamic quartet playing a very eclectic style of music based on the Georgia blues, with a stage presence that radiates the sheer joy they find in performing.  Delta blues, jazz, Dixieland, Cajun, ragtime and country all go to make up the unique sound that these fiercely independent young men bring.
- Blues to Bop (Lugano Switzerland)

Deep swamp, rockin’ and rollin’, bad to the bone blues … Mudcat and his rompin’ troupe of Atlantans can knock ya down with their Georgia blend of rural blues, country tones, and Appalachian sounds. The mix is a contemporary one though, wielding tradition, innovation, and plain fun-making music. Mudcat also throws down some awesome electric action. … kicks up a clever batch of blues guaranteed to make you feel good.
- Mark A. Cole in Big City Blues (Chicago)
[Mudcat] is the kind of band that gets an audience moving.
- Domenic Forcella of WFCS 107.7 (Stamford, CT)

Mudcat is the alternative to alternative. Seldom does a band have this much fun playing music. The idea that a good time should be had by all is pounded out on every note.
-
Donald Fetter in Metropolitan Spirit (Augusta, GA)
… dishes out Delta Blues with lots of energy. … [I]t’s the live performance that wins the audience.
-
Tonya Jameson in Creative Loafing (Charlotte, NC)
Mudcat … is a devilishly spontaneous blues ‘n’ ragtime five-piece formed by guitarist/vocalist Danny “Mudcat” Dudeck, who paid his musical dues in the late ‘80s at dives so dangerous many cops avoided them! [Mudcat] gained widespread notoriety through its involvement with the Music Maker Blues Revival Tour.
-
Mountain Xpress (Asheville, NC)
Mudcat is a world-class slide guitarist who learned from some of the old timers.
- Village Voice

They throw down a
spirited mixture of blues
without boundaries.

A Mudcat show is an event you have to experience live to get the full effect. Theirs is a show full of theatre and drama, with their emphasis on old timey, down home blues and folk blues bring a sense of history as well as a sense of dynamics. Mudcat is a jumping, jiving, knee-slapping, funky, soulful, swampy rhythm machine. With a touch of Vaudeville or a side-street minstrel show, Mudcat never fails to leave even the most skeptical among us fraught with pure joy. This is a fun band, and you can’t help getting caught up in their performance.
-
Gary House in Golden Isles Weekly (St. Simon’s Island, GA)

Authentically-soulful, emotionally-charged vocals given an extra kick by Mudcat’s searing slide guitar. Covers are rendered respectfully, but with a dignified exuberance that’s inspiring. Mudcat infuses everything with an earthy grit that’s truly authentic, carefully avoiding the calculated similarity that plagues many blues releases.
- Hal Horowitz in INsite (Atlanta)
[W]hat makes Mudcat so much darn foot-stompin’ fun is the passion and energy that radiates from the band. … On stage Dudek [sic] is both outrageous and colorful, and the fleet-fingered guitarist has created a signature style - strolling through audiences playing ferocious guitar riffs, and even making musical entrances from the sidewalk outside the club.
- ESP (Greensboro, NC)

...thanks for not letting your talent sit caged up within your hearts...
...who could have really been ready for the magic we saw November 19 at the Cotton Club!!!!!!
Just loved the show in Boston. Drove hours to get there and would do it again. Hey, I saw you guys last week in Cleveland and you totally rocked! My friends and I reserve the phrase "rip-roaring" for evenings that are above and beyond, and that certainly describes your performance. I saw you and your terrific band this summer in the Winston Blues tour in Denver. You guys were awsome!
I had recommended that a friend in Cleveland see your show and he called to tell me they had a ball! They fell in love with your music and had a TREMENDOUS time. Man!
I just had to say a huge "THANK YOU" for putting on an incredible show here in Denver last night.

If the Atlanta blues scene has a heart, it beats in the chest of Daniel “Mudcat” Dudeck. After all, nobody does more to bridge the gap between the city’s current crop of blues players and the handful of surviving elders. … Atlanta’s favorite good-time blues band …
